XLPE Cable Curing Chamber

Indeecon specializes in precision curing and cross-linking chambers for two critical manufacturing processes: lead-acid battery plate hydroset curing and polyethylene (XLPE) cable insulation cross-linking. Both demand exacting control over temperature, humidity, and atmosphere to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance. These chambers are designed specifically for the "Hydroset" process in lead-acid battery manufacturing, where the conversion of lead paste into a stable crystalline structure (3BS/4BS) is critical.

Background

What is a XLPE Cable Curing Chamber?

XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) cross-linking is a chemical process where polyethylene polymer chains bond together through peroxide decomposition or radiation, creating a three-dimensional network. This cross-linked structure dramatically improves the cable's thermal stability, electrical properties, and mechanical strength. Under-cured XLPE insulation is brittle and prone to electrical breakdown — the leading cause of high-voltage cable failures in the field. Indeecon chambers ensure uniform, precise cross-linking across the entire cable drum.

Applicable Standards

Standard
Description
Status
Battery Manufacturing
Battery Manufacturing (IS 1651): Our chambers are optimized to help manufacturers meet Indian and International standards for deep-cycle and automotive batteries. By controlling the 3BS to 4BS crystal transition, we help you improve Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and overall battery life.
Compliant
Cable Insulation
Cable Insulation (IS 7098 / IEC 60811): Our XLPE ovens are essential for passing the "Hot Set Test." We provide the data logging required to prove that the cable was maintained at the correct cross-linking temperature for the entire duration of the batch.
Compliant
NABL T
raceability: Both product lines are supplied with NABL-accredited calibration for temperature and (where applicable) humidity and pressure sensors, ensuring your facility is audit-ready for ISO 9001 and industry-specific certifications.

Capabilities

What Makes Our Temperature and Humidity Chamber Stand Out

  • Cold-Start Profile Capability: Unique feature allowing plates to gain strength at high humidity before drying phase begins, preventing cracking
  • Vertical Laminar Airflow: Ensures uniform plate oxidation and consistent curing across all plates in a batch
  • Multi-Step Ramp & Soak Control: Programmable temperature and humidity profiles for optimised 3BS → 4BS conversion
  • SS-316 Internal Construction: Resists acidic vapor corrosion from battery paste outgassing
  • Hydrogen Monitoring: Integrated gas sensors for hydrogen detection with emergency venting capability
  • Paste-to-Grid Adhesion Optimisation: Cold-start profile prevents delamination and ensures superior bond strength
  • Engineering Highlight: Our battery chambers feature a unique "Cold-Start" profile capability. This allows the plates to gain strength at high humidity before the drying phase begins, preventing plate cracking and ensuring high "Paste-to-Grid" adhesion. This proprietary profile is a key differentiator that reduces scrap rates and improves battery life.
  • Radial Airflow Distribution: Ensures heat penetrates deep layers of wound cable drum uniformly, preventing under-curing
  • Saturated Steam or Dry Heat: Flexible medium selection (steam for moisture-sensitive insulation, dry heat for speed)
  • Heavy-Duty Floor Tracks: Trolley-mounted cable drums up to 4m+ diameter reels
  • Uniform Temperature Profile: ±3°C throughout the mass of the cable reel
  • Data Logging for Compliance: Complete temperature/time records for Hot Set Test certification
  • Custom Chamber Sizing: Designed around your drum diameter and batch requirements
  • Pressure-Rated Construction: Up to 5 Bar for steam-injection models
  • Engineering Highlight: Indeecon XLPE chambers utilize a Radial Airflow Distribution system. This ensures that heat penetrates the deep layers of a wound cable drum uniformly, preventing "Under-curing" at the core, which is the leading cause of insulation breakdown in high-voltage cables. This proprietary design is critical for passing rigorous Hot Set Test audits.
  • Proven expertise in battery and cable manufacturing — trusted by tier-1 OEMs
  • Proprietary Cold-Start and Radial Airflow technologies unavailable elsewhere
  • Full after-sales support: Installation, commissioning, and ongoing technical support
  • NABL-accredited calibration included with every chamber
  • Customization available: Chamber sizing, automation, and bespoke control systems
  • Competitive pricing with fast manufacturing lead times
