Question 1

What is an environmental test chamber and what is it used for?

Accepted Answer

An environmental test chamber is a precision-controlled enclosure that simulates temperature, humidity, corrosion, dust, rain, and other environmental conditions to test how products perform under real-world stress. Industries like automotive, pharma, electronics, and aerospace use them for product validation, quality control, and compliance testing.

Question 2

What is the difference between an environmental test chamber and a climatic test chamber?

Accepted Answer

A climatic test chamber specifically controls temperature and humidity to simulate climate-based conditions. An environmental test chamber is a broader category that includes climatic chambers plus salt spray, dust, rain, thermal shock, and other stress-testing chambers. All climatic test chambers are environmental chambers, but not all environmental chambers are climatic chambers.

Question 3

Which industries use environmental test chambers?

Accepted Answer

Environmental test chambers are widely used across automotive, aerospace, electronics, EV battery manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, defence, and research & development sectors. Any industry that needs to validate product durability, shelf life, or compliance with IEC, ASTM, MIL-STD, or ISO standards relies on them.

Question 4

What is a salt spray chamber and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

A salt spray chamber creates a controlled corrosive mist environment to test how coatings, metals, and finished components resist corrosion over time. A saline solution is atomised into a fine mist inside the chamber at a set temperature and concentration. It is widely used for testing as per ASTM B117, ISO 9227, and IS 11864 standards.

Question 5

What is NABL calibration and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

NABL calibration refers to calibration services accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. It ensures your instruments and test chambers are calibrated against national and international measurement standards, making the results traceable, reliable, and accepted during audits, IATF 16949 certifications, and regulatory inspections.

Question 6

Do I need NABL calibration for my environmental test chamber?

Accepted Answer

If you operate in a regulated industry such as pharma, automotive (IATF 16949), or aerospace, NABL-traceable calibration is typically mandatory for your environmental test chambers and instruments. It ensures your test data is legally defensible and audit-ready. Even outside regulated industries, NABL calibration improves measurement confidence and reduces product liability risk.

Question 7

What calibration equipment does Indeecon offer?

Accepted Answer

Indeecon offers a full range of calibration equipment including dry block calibrators, temperature and humidity calibrators, liquid calibration baths, refrigerated baths, and ultra-low temperature baths. These cover temperature ranges from -100°C to 1200°C and are suited for automotive QA labs, pharma IQ/OQ/PQ validation, and industrial metrology workflows.

Question 8

How do I choose between a climatic test chamber and a thermal shock chamber?

Accepted Answer

A climatic test chamber gradually ramps temperature and humidity to simulate long-term environmental exposure. A thermal shock chamber rapidly transfers a product between extreme hot and cold zones to test mechanical and material resilience under sudden temperature change. If your testing standard requires a transition time of under 30 seconds between temperature extremes, you need a thermal shock chamber.

Question 9

Can Indeecon service or calibrate chambers from other brands?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Indeecon provides repair, preventive maintenance, and NABL-traceable calibration for environmental test chambers and calibration equipment from third-party brands as well. The service team covers pan-India locations including Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.

Question 10

What should I check before buying an environmental test chamber or calibration equipment?

Accepted Answer

Key factors to evaluate include the temperature and humidity range required, the test standards you need to comply with (IEC, ASTM, ISO, MIL-STD), the internal volume needed for your test specimens, data logging and controller capabilities, after-sales service availability, and whether the supplier offers NABL calibration support. Indeecon's engineering team can help you shortlist the right chamber or calibration equipment based on your exact application.
