Compliance
A rain test chamber is a controlled testing system used to simulate rainfall, water spray, and water-jet conditions to evaluate the water resistance of products and enclosures. It allows manufacturers to reproduce defined test conditions repeatedly and assess whether water enters the test specimen during exposure.
An IP test chamber is specifically configured to perform water-ingress tests associated with IP ratings. Depending on the required test level, the system can simulate dripping water, spraying water, oscillating water jets, powerful water jets, or immersion conditions.
Testing is commonly performed according to IEC 60529, which defines the IP Code and the degrees of protection provided by enclosures against the ingress of water and other external elements. This makes rain and water-ingress testing important for products intended for outdoor, industrial, automotive, electronic, and other demanding environments.
An IP test chamber provides controlled and repeatable water-ingress testing for products that require protection against water exposure. Indeecon's testing systems can be configured for different IPX test requirements, allowing manufacturers to validate enclosure performance under defined water-flow, pressure, spray-pattern, and exposure conditions.
IEC 60529 specifies the IP Code used to classify the degree of protection provided by electrical enclosures. Depending on the required IP rating, testing may involve dripping water, spraying water, water jets, or immersion. A properly configured IP test chamber helps manufacturers reproduce these conditions consistently for product validation and compliance testing.
The chamber can be configured based on the product dimensions, test method, water-flow requirements, pressure requirements, nozzle arrangement, and applicable testing standard.
| IP Test | Test Method | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| IPX1 | Vertically dripping water | Basic enclosure protection |
| IPX2 | Dripping water with enclosure tilted | Small electrical enclosures |
| IPX3 | Spraying water | Outdoor equipment |
| IPX4 | Splashing water | Electrical/electronic products |
| IPX5 | Water jets | Industrial equipment |
| IPX6 | Powerful water jets | Outdoor/automotive products |
| IPX7 | Temporary immersion | Waterproof enclosure testing |
| IPX8 | Continuous immersion | Products designed for immersion |
| IPX9 / IPX9K | High-pressure/high-temperature water | Automotive and demanding applications |
